Frequently asked questions
Common questions about Loryth.
What is Loryth?
Loryth is an open-source, self-hosted personal productivity platform. It combines meal planning, budgeting, task tracking, journaling, knowledge management, and more into a unified system that runs entirely on your own hardware.
How do I install Loryth?
Loryth runs on Docker Compose. Clone the repository, configure your environment variables, and run `docker compose up`. The platform will start all services, apply database migrations, and be ready to use in minutes.
What are the system requirements?
Loryth runs on any system that supports Docker. A machine with at least 4GB of RAM and 10GB of disk space is recommended. It works on Linux, macOS, and Windows (via WSL2 or Docker Desktop).
Is Loryth free?
Yes. Loryth is fully open-source and free to use. There are no premium tiers, no feature gates, and no usage limits. You can inspect, modify, and distribute the code.
Can I use only some add-ons?
Yes. Loryth's modular architecture lets you enable or disable individual add-ons. Each service is independent — you can run just the Grocery and Wallet services if that's all you need.
Is my data safe?
Your data is stored in PostgreSQL on your own server. Loryth never sends data to external services (unless you explicitly configure AI integrations). Regular database backups are recommended.
Can I contribute to Loryth?
Absolutely! Loryth welcomes contributions. Check the Contributing page for guidelines on setting up a development environment, coding standards, and how to submit pull requests.
Does Loryth have a mobile app?
Loryth has a cross-platform UI built with React (web) and React Native (mobile via Expo). The web app is fully responsive and works well on mobile browsers. A native mobile app is available for development.
